All Hail Hoots! GLORYHAMMER spielen größte Headlinershow ihrer Karriere in Oberhausen

(english below)

The Siege of Dunkeld (In Hoots We Trust)” anstimmten.

All Hail Hoots! Gloryhammer doing their greatest headline gig ever at Oberhausen

When we were young, it wasn’t that hard for us, to imagine being a hero of the myths or fairytales. The Good and the Evil – that separation was totally clear to us. To do the noble thing was obvious and didn’t need to be discussed. The evil dragon was defeated by a brave and smart heart, the thankful virgin used to become our wife afterwards. But in our present times dragons reign in public all over the world, virgins aren’t found that often any more and whoever will act as a hero may be harmed or – in germany – will get a fine. But listen, there is hope: GLORYHAMMER will bring back the time of the ancient legends and join us on battlefield. The band former known as kind of a step son of ALESTORM has already grown up and brings childlike joy back to our hearts nevertheless.

But first infantry was marching in. WIND ROSE from Italy impressed us with epic anthems from the world of J.R.R. Tolkien. Although they were just an support act, the people were dedicated and used to sing along to “Diggy Diggy Hole”. No surprise Napalm Records offered them a contract, because they’re just bringing tons of fun!

While GLORYHAMMER and WIND ROSE are obviously fighting for the cause of the good, NEKROGOBLIKON have also a heart for the evil creatures. The band from california is well-known for using aggressive vocals, fast guitars and lyrics about monsters. A funny guy in a goblin-costume was jumping around during their show on stage and incited the people to support the band loudly. Although you can call them incongruos compared with the other bands, it was kind of honorable to let them tell their tale also, and not just the heros. However, some guys at the audience seemed to desert and joined the monster troops temporarily.

But then the battle scream from thousands of lungs could be witnessed: “HOOTS! HOOTS! HOOTS!” Dozens of plastic swords became inflated and risen to the sky, when general Angus McFife and his soldiers appeared on stage, kicking off the show with “The Siege of Dunkeld (In Hoots we trust)”. And that was just the first of many chances to sing along during the set. There had never been so many people in the army lof Angus McFife, because GLORYHAMMER were doing their greatest ever headline show in Oberhausen this evening. In the self-named song “Gloryhammer” the band made clear who their main enemies are. Maybe the former named mascot of the support act needed to escape that time because the “laser powered goblin smasher” was mentioned menacingly.

GLORYHAMMER is also well-known for taking their own role and the main ingredients of Power Metal music not too seriously what is similar to ALESTORM’s concept aswell. Therefore it was the magic dragons’ turn to show up next, followed by the lovely unicorns in the song “Land Of Unicorns. Did we mention, inflatable unicorns were the most common item in the audience except for swords? Whoever calls his own art satirical is free to deal with any cliche and carry stereotypes to extremes. Keeping that in mind, we were not marveling when we came face to face with ridiculous long song or album names by GLORYHAMMER. The actual tour and album is called “Legends From Beyond The Galactic Terrorvortex” for example and the next song manifested as a long monstrosity similar to that, called “Questlords of Inverness, Ride To The Galactic Fortress”.

While a sword usually does it’s job without any problems, other tools often fail. Probably it was a dark spell’s fault, casted by goblins, when the microphone of AngusMcFife broke several times. But fortunately the evil plan of the “Goblin King Of The Darkstorm Galaxy” to steal GLORYHAMMER’s migthiest weapon in the voice of their leader, failed aswell. He animated his troops with no mercy. But sometimes even heros may get injured at a battlefield. This time fate’s hammer had smashed down on the mighty Hootsman (bassist James Cartwright) leaving him unable to walk properly. But this man couldn’t be stopped, he joined the show in a wheelchair. And no complain was heared from this warriors lips. His time had come when “his” signature song “The Hollywood Hootsman” got played and the wheelchair didn’t prevent him from taking tribute from the audience in letting them shout “All hail hoots!” and later in the set unleashing the “Hootsforce”. A true heroic feat was claimed next from a guy standing front row: He should gain a free t-shirt if he would manage to go to the bar in the back by crowdsurfing and return the same way while carrying a beer for the keyboardist Michael Barber. The task was set and the knight started his ride. Not to mention he fullfilled the condition and got the price. A GLORYHAMMER-shirt is no virgin to be honest. However, wearing such a beautiful shirt may catch the eye of a virgin instead.

And after that? Had the show come to an end already? Had the enemies been slaughtered totally and had the time come to start a victory party at a tavern? Yes for god’s sake, let’s just… WAIT! Isn’t that hoof’s sound coming closer? So Angus McFife and his officers turned around and kept waving swords for another set of three fantastic songs until every monster was truly dead and the mighty city of Dundee was released from the curse of the undead unicorns and the evil sorcerer Zargothrax. What an epic battle this was at Oberhausen! Every warrior who has been part of this adventure, will be able to tell this tale to his grandchildren! Our world is still full of different monsters, no matter if they’re are green blooded or wearing brown or blue faces. GLORYHAMMER teaches us to keep our sword sharp and be ready to defend our galaxy while shouting out our “ALL HAIL HOOTS!” to the world!
