Subkultur – das Synthpop Epizentrum mit VANGUARD, LIGHTS OF EUPHORIA und ACCESSORY

(English version below)

Angekündigt als „One night of finest Synthpop.

LIGHTS OF EUPHORIA

Announced as „One night of finest Synthpop. Futurepop & Electro“ the United Tour organised by Epicentre Booking promised to escalate into a true Synthpop epicentre in Hannover’s charming living room. Apart from time differences between summer and wintertime regarding opening times, a balanced trade-off was found with the start of the musical earthquakes just at good old post TV news time. The three announced bands VANGUARD, LIGHTS OF EUPHORIA und ACCESSORY implied that this earthquake night would be an amazing and unforgetable event.

VANGUARD

Following the meaning of VANGUARD, the swedisch duo started the first series of shockwaves in Hannover’s moderately filled living room and carried the dancing audience with their fat synths and massive gutresonating drumbeats right away with their first track.

Patrik Hansson and Jonas Olofsson transfered their good mood to the audience and their constantly danceable tunes provided an amazing starting mood with a remarkable potpourri from their previously published 4 albums. While Jonas keenly switched between keys and drums, occasionally grabbing a nearby megaphone, Patrik stayed true to the mic and fired his singing skills into the dancing masses. The earthquaking crowd’s energetic request for an extionsion of quake waves was happily taken on and, following a single protest shout in a rare moment of silence, the set closed by „Goodbye“.

LIGHTS OF EUPHORIA

After brief moments of breath taking and stage rearrangements the next escalation level of earthquakiness followed. Reminiscencing about David Bowie’s „Let’s Dance“ the melodic and driving rhythms of LIGHTS OF EUPHORIA forced the attending mass to spin their feet and dance away. Singer Jimmy Machon added with his trademark, sparkling red lacquered patent leather shows, to both clichés („…put on your red shoes and dance the blues…“) – although not blues, but a very fine cocktail made from Synth-, Electro and Futurepop.

Solely a somewhat sub optimal tuning of Jimmy’s mic left a spot and damped the existing euphoria on the overall outstanding and expectation fulfilling earth quake wave, which despite by megaphone use by Jimmy and Thomas Gaarn experienced no change. Thomas didn’t have much time for megaphone singing appearances since he was constantly busy shifting between drums and keys. For the tune drooling fans riding the wave front the unaltered voice was audible, since Jimmy dominated the entire stage with his presence and dynamic.

The Danish/German trio provided to, here as a Danish duo, the requesting audience a well deserved encore with the classic cover of Depeche Mode’s “Stripped” and left the stage receiving their well deserved applause.

ACCESSORY

The Chemnitz duo ACCESSORY surfed the final wave front and Mike Königsberger in control of the full load of electronic machinery opened their set. Singer Dirk Steyer, who not only dominated the stage by his sheer size, used the full area, with or without ACCESSORY flag, to fire the evening’s thirteen songs, a mix of industrial and EBM, to further boil the audience. Since this somewhat harder style of music didn’t fully spark enthusiam of all visitors, Subkultur’s dance floor then allowed more excessive styles of dancing. Only the lonely fire extinguisher on the stage’s left side vibrated more or less stationarily, driven by the hammering beats.

Due to the advanced hour and the feeling of having had a fully holistic and in itself round set an encore wasn’t given, but this was not negatively registered.

After the earthquake is before the dance quake

Following directly after ACCESSORY’s final track, neatlessly the two skilled DJs :AMD: and Björn Klapprott took over the dancing wave’s helm and played a well balanced and fitting mix that stayed true to this evening’s motto.

And to close this report by citing one of the guests “Ohne die SubKultur wäre Hannovers Clubszene nicht so vielfältig und um einiges ärmer… 🤩” (Without SubKultur Hannover’s club scene wouldn’t be as eclectic and considerably poorer [translated by floppy, originally from] KN, 25.01.2020) – he’s right.
